Consisting of three units near Skagway, Alaska and one in Seattle, Washington, the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park remembers the years in the late 1890s when daring goldseekers from America and Canada alike flooded the region in search of precious metals. A good part of downtown Skagway is under the park's protection, including 15 historic buildings such as the Verbauwhede Confectionary and the Pantheon Saloon. Part of the 33-mile Chilkoot Trail, a popular trail with area backpackers, runs through the park as well. The Alaska sites are located in the southeastern corner of the state, northeast of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. For more information on the Seattle unit, visit the relevant attraction page on this site.
